Getting Started with Providing Data to GISIN
It's great that you want to share your data with GISIN and the rest of the world! If you are not already a member of a project, you'll want to find your organization in the 'GISIN List' and then either join your groups existing project or request for a new project to be created for your organization. Then, you'll want to take the first tutorial below to learn how to upload data in files to GISIN. Once you've learned to upload data, you may want to setup a web service for GISIN to periodically update its database from your database.
1. Register on GISIN
The first thing you'll need to do to provide data to the GISIN is to register. If you have not already registered at any of our sister websites (e.g., NIISS.org), then click the register link (the last link in the menu to the left) on the GISIN.org website. Fill out the required information and click Submit. That's it! Check your email for a verification email and click it to verify your email address. You're done!
2. Join the GISIN List
If your organizations web site does not appear in the GISIN List, you'll want to contact Elizabeth Sellers to have a new GISIN List entry added. If you have data and don't have a web site, skip to number 2 below.
3. Join a GISIN project
If you have a web site, check if your GISIN List entry has an option to join the project. To do this, go to the GISIN list and search for your organization. Click on the entry for the organization to go to the information page and look for the 'Data provider information' field. If there is not an existing project, this field will not appear. Please email us with a request to create a project for your GISIN list entry. If you do not have a web site, email us to create a project for you.
4. Share your data with GISIN
4.1 Upload files and add them to GISIN
First, learn about the GISIN protocol, including what information can be shared with GISIN and the required format. Then, you can go through the process of adding data to the GISIN via the link below.
4.2 Setup a web service to automatically share data
The link below will take you to the information on how to setup a web service to provide data to GISIN. We only recommend this for organizations that have an existing internal web server and information technology support staff that are experienced with web services.
